Veterans and Dependents Using VA Education Benefits
Under the Isakson and Roe Veterans Health Care and Benefits Improvement Act of 2020 (Section 1005), veterans and their dependents using VA education benefits are eligible for in-state tuition rates, regardless of their Colorado residency status. Key provisions include:
- No time restrictions: The previous requirement for veterans to enroll within three years of discharge has been removed
- All VA education benefits: This applies to veterans and dependents using any VA education benefits program
- Chapter 35 (CH35) Dependents: The Colonel John M. McHugh Tuition Fairness for Survivors Act specifically expanded in-state tuition eligibility to dependents using CH35 Dependents Education Assistance (DEA) benefits
Veterans and dependents who do not meet the standard Colorado residency requirements must complete the Isakson & Roe Section 1005 Residency Form. After filling out the form, it should be submitted to the 海角禁区 Pueblo Military and Veteran Center office for verification.
Important Limitations
While eligible for in-state tuition rates, veterans and dependents using this provision:
- Are not eligible for Colorado-specific resident grants, such as the Colorado Student Grant
- Must still meet all other admission and academic requirements.
