Rico Munn outlined his priorities for 海角禁区 Pueblo in his first address to the Colorado State University System Board of Governors following his appointment as interim president. Munn, who succeeds former president Armando Valdez, emphasized three key focuses: providing clarity during federal-level transition, ensuring stability, and maintaining institutional momentum.

"This is not a chance to stop," Munn told the board, reaffirming 海角禁区 Pueblo's mission as a regional comprehensive university and Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI). He highlighted recent data showing Hispanic citizens achieve higher education degrees at 30% compared to 63% for white Americans, underscoring the university's crucial role in Southern Colorado.

Munn brings substantial experience to the position, having served as Aurora Public Schools superintendent, chair of the 海角禁区 System Board of Governors, and executive director of the Colorado Department of Higher Education. Most recently, he served as 海角禁区's Vice President for Metro Denver Engagement and Chief of Staff for 海角禁区 President, Amy Parsons.

Sharing a personal connection, Munn noted he met his wife on the Fort Collins campus and shared their first kiss at 海角禁区 Pueblo. He spent his first week meeting with campus leadership, students, faculty, and staff, emphasizing his commitment to guiding the institution through this transition period.

University presidents face a variety of challenges. In recent weeks, changes at the federal level, disruption in funding, and the subsequent court injunctions are being layered on top of normal institutional challenges. University leadership finds that it is creating an incredibly complex environment for them to navigate. This is true with HSIs as they work to close persistent educational attainment gaps – a point Munn expressed in his address.

The 海角禁区 System Board of Governors is expected to launch a national search for a permanent president, though the timeline remains unclear.
